| The
Story of RAPADEMICS®
RAPADEMICS® began as an idea to utilize the
appeal and popularity of Rap Music and Hip Hop culture to
educate and make a positive impact on the lives of youth.
There is no denying that kids listen to Rap Music. In the
past 20 years this art form has influenced millions of youngsters
world wide and is the catalyst for a multi-billion dollar
industry.
RAPADEMICS® (RAP + ACADEMICS) uses songs
with catchy melodies and tight Hip Hop beats to teach educational
fundamentals. Despite its popularity and the success of
Old School Rap acts such as LL Cool J, Kurtis Blow, and
Run-DMC, critics argued hip-hop music would be just another
fad. Roughly 25 years later, it has become more than a music
genre. It's a culture that is embraced by youth worldwide.
It's no longer a black thing; whites purchase roughly 60%
of hip-hop records.
What makes RAPADEMICS® so unique and effective:
1) RAPADEMICS® uses real Hip Hop music and popular culture
to draw kids and hold their attention while infusing positive
values and teaching educational principles.
2) In addition to teaching core components of early childhood
curriculum, the products also emphasize self-worth, high
expectations, morals and values, personal responsibility,
a healthy drug-free lifestyle, self respect and respect
for others".
3) More importantly RAPADEMICS® teaches these valuable lessons
in a language that the youth of today can enjoy and relate
to.
4) RAPADEMICS® also utilizes a core group of graffiti-style
animated characters called The Shortie Crew. Through their
interaction in true-to-life situations, the Shortie Crew
teaches valuable lessons that kids will carry with them
throughout life.
6) If the Hip Hop industry is powerful enough to lure a
whole generation of youth toward self destruction, as many
have claimed, then it stands to reason that the same power
can be used to uplift and educate.
Is there really a need for RAPADEMICS®?
Many educators feel strongly that innovative tools such
as RAPADEMICS® provides answers to a lot of frustration shared
by students, parents, teachers, and administrators in the
school system and research backs them up. The Northwest
Regional Educational Laboratory states:
"Many under-achieving children have
a need to relate the learning process to their own experience.
Cultural conflict can occur when children have not had experiences
that provide them with the kind of information that is used
and valued in school. To reach all children, educators must
expand their repertoire of instructional strategies to encompass
the various approaches children use to learn."
That's where RAPADEMICS® falls into place. "Not only have we created songs and accompanying workbooks
that teach core components of early childhood curriculum",
says Ezra Jay, "more importantly RAPADEMICS teaches
these valuable lessons in a language that the youth of today
can enjoy and relate to. Amon Rashidi states, "A lot
of the behavioral problems exhibited by youth in school
today stem from a lack of the basic skills needed to function
in a classroom setting. These kids act out to mask their
lack of confidence in their learning ability and understanding
of the subject matter. RAPADEMICS® allows these youth to
catch up in a non-threatening way. We are extremely excited
about RAPADEMICS® and we anticipate that it is a learning
tool that no child will be without in the near future." Our case studies have shown that RAPADEMICS® is highly effective
and carries with it an immediate impact."
